RIP Picnic Table, Hello Love Rock

Next Swim: M-F 6AM, 5PM
Last Swim: Tues 6am

Air Temp: 70
Water Temp: 57
Clarity: Clear near shore, murkier farther out
Waves: mostly flat
Kru: Itch, TattooLady, Eric, Magic Mike, Dragonfly, Showgirl, and Diablo early

This morning was what swimming is all about-- full of amazing swimming, and lots of other good stuff.

Cheers!

The sun was almost too bright. There were kids enjoying a breakfast bake (Amelia's term)  at the bottom of the ramp, and a half-full bottle of pinot grigio by the bench.

We swam south, my first southerly swim of the season, and so much has changed. There's a clear-cut of the hillside just south of Klode, and shocking amounts of erosion.  The beach that formerly hosted the picnic table is there, though diminished, and there is no sign of the table.

Love Rock is looking a bit faded, and the sewer pipe looks somehow different, too.

Back on the beach, Itch and I picked up the scant amount of trash, and I played with a bubble wand and super soaker. (None of those are metaphors.)  There was a lively discussion regarding the ups and downs of Covid baking, and the care and feeding of sourdough starter.

Best swim of the season.

That's an ugly buoy graph.

My thoughts exactly, but at least it's trending in the right direction now

WAKE AND BAKE! we ran into the 4/20 fans when HH and NSN went for an early--but later morning swim. I don't think HH understood what I meant when I said wake and bake as we walked by.

Also, at one portion along the clear cut new bluff face, the top is lined by an enticing stretch of purple phlox. Almost looks landscaped. But then you see little patches of it down the bluff face and you know...

This would be the tall phlox, a wildflower, as opposed to the domesticated creeping phlox found in rock gardens. Amazing that such different plants are known by the same name.

People, people, people. Every year we have this discussion. Before Showgirl weighs in:
The pretty flower that Magic Mike was looking at is most likely Dame's Rocket. Dame's Rocket is tall and has 4 petal blossom and is often found growing along the Oak Leaf Trail or in disturbed soil. It blooms this time of year. Wild Phlox has a 5 petal blossom and blooms later in the year. https://www.lehighvalleylive.com/sports/2012/05/dont_confuse_dames_rocket_with.html

Kahuna, thank you for stepping in to clarify the phlox/non-phlox issue.

I think a few years back I lost a bet to you on the issue. Won't make that mistake again.

Google of "wild phlox" shows px of Dame's Rocket! So an understandable mistake.
