Disintegrating in the Waves

Next Swims:  Tue 9/18 6AM & 5:45PM, Wed 6AM
Neither Cap'n nor I can make a 6PM Wed swim, but Lorraine is looking for someone to join her, please comment if you can swim Wed evening.

Last Swims:  Mon 9/17 6AM & 5:45PM
Water temp: Mon AM 62, Mon PM 59
Waves: Calm
Water Clarity: Excellent
Mon AM Crew:  Brain, Mr. Bunny, Squawky the Goose
Mon PM Crew:  Patriarch, Cap'n, Lorraine

As the days grow shorter and cooler and the water temp dips below sixty, fewer swimmers are showing up, and the ones that do are as mad as Queeg.  Brain imagines that the animals on the beach are cheering him on and Cap'n keeps imagining that he smells barbecue short ribs.  The Crew is falling apart, but I'm hopeful we can find enough swimmers holding on to their sanity long enough to complete one more full moon swim - the Harvest Moon will be next Wednesday September 29th.

Going out to get in-

As Diablo and I were approaching the beach, Brain (he swam to South South Beach as well) was on his way out. He reported a water temp of 59and air @ 53 (or was it 43?). With such a difference in air to water temp, once one gets swimming the water feels comfortably invigorating (all were skin swims). Diablo and I swam to South South Beach, and it was a challenging swim back. There were some 5-6 foot waves spaced about 5-6 seconds apart. One has to remember when navigating such waters to look for the low parts of the wave to go out further so one can get in to the area aimed for. Or if the walls of white caps are unrelenting to dive under the crests about a foot or so, keeping in mind the timing of the next oncoming wall of water! Noon time is forecasted to be even bigger!! I can be persuaded to partake in a noon time swim, if anyone is interested.

The morning crew has had ever-changing start times. To coordinate, let's plan on the 6:00 arrival at the parking lot. Gumdrop, Kahuna, Showgirl, Diablo, see you in the morn. Captain, Patriarch, Steve...where are you in the morning? 60 degress is hardly cold.

Hi all -
Forecast for this (Wed) eve is windy and 3-4 foot swells so I think I'll wait for tomorrow eve when the forecast is much improved (only 0.5 ft swells and minimal wind). I can't get there until 6pm Th. The Patriarch is out of town and I think Capt'n can't come either. Anyone want to join me Th eve? Alikat? Gumdrop? Kahuna? Diablo?

Did anyone swim this am? I'm wondering what the water temp was ... the two sites I use say the temp has tanked (at least temporarily).
