Pins, Needles...and Skin Swimmers

Next Swim:  Thursday 6/21 6AM

Last Swim:  Wcd 6/20 6AM
Water Temp: 47.4!
Waves: small
Water Clarity:  Excellent
Crew:  Diablo, Gumdrop, Showgirl, Kahuna, Chris, Jeff with guest appearance by Capt'n

(Editor's Note....this blog entry has been updated to ensure it is clear that Diablo, Gumdrop and Kahuna logged an official skin swim in 47.4 degree water down to the south-south beach picnic table and back.)

Despite a high in the mid 90's yesterday the 7:30pm water temperature measured only a degree warmer than at 6am. (....50.2 at 7:30pm to be exact....).  The night time low around 80 also was unsuccessful in preventing the water temp from plummeting even lower.  It would appear that as long as the strong west winds prevail there is little hope of the water temps rebounding regardless of how warm the day time highs are.  :(

The water felt like pins & needles to the feet this morning....but that didn't stop Diablo, Gumdrop and Kahuna from logging an official skin swim and becoming the first Skin Crew this year to out number the Suit Crew.  (Technically 3 suit and 3 skin swimmers walked the plank this morning but of the wetsuit swimmers only Showgirl endured the conditions to log an official swim this morning.) Contrary to what one may think about a swim in 47 degree water...the swim down to south-south beach and back for Diablo, Gumdrop and Kahuna was not fast-n-furious....rather it was a slow methodical journey reminiscent of swimmers who are savoring every stroke of a very pleasurable swim in paradise.

Since when is a swim down to the picnic table and back on South South Beach not an official swim? Maybe I was delirious but it sure felt like I was on an official swim. Thanks to Cap'n and Diablo for sticking around on the beach while I frolicked in the icy embrace of the Lady of the Lake.

Apparently these points in the original blog entry didn't make it clear that Diablo, Gumdrop and Kahuna logged an official swim this morning in 47.4 degree water...

".but that didn't stop Diablo, Gumdrop and Kahuna from logging an official skin swim"

"...the swim down to south-south beach and back for Diablo, Gumdrop and Kahuna was not fast-n-furious...."

...so I've updated the blog entry to ensure everyone is aware that Diablo, Gumdrop and Kahuna logged an official swim this morning in 47.4 degree water... :)

Door County Swim Report: The water water on the Green Bay side is MUCH warmer. I didn't have a thermometer but I would estimate high 60s at least, maybe 70. I swam Wednesday and Thursday at Nicolet Bay in Peninsula State park. It was my first open water skin swim of the season, and it was great!

Warmer waters.
Kru: GD,Kahuna,Brain,Diablo. Mpower & Co. on deck.
Waves: none
Temp: 47.7 per Brain O'meter.
The south-SW wind shifted this morning to bring back some warmer water and colder air. This morning Kru was a mix of nuts and no nuts swimmers. We all completed the official swim and after the swim we enjoyed some rations of peaches and ham provided by Monsieur Kahuna while enjoying the view of yoga performers.
Next swim Friday 6AM.

In terms of count, for today's swim, that was 2 skin (Diablo and Kahuna), and the rest sane wetsuit swimmers. Diablo, Kahuna and Speed Gun to Storm Drain and back. Gum Drop to Cedar Grove and back. I don't know about the rest.

And not just any ham, grilled Southern Country Ham, and ripe Georgia Peaches. Living large.

Where do you all swim? Not sure which is So Shore Beach......behind the pavilion or down the hill from the playground?

Thanks!

The Klode Kru swims at Klode beach in Whitefish Bay...which is just a few blocks north of the intersection of Silver Spring Dr & Lake Dr.

PS. I just posted a link to the Google Map for Klode Park. Look for it under the "Lake Michigan Web Pages" section along the right side of the blog.
