Continuing to improve

Next Swims:
   Saturday August 24th @ 8am
Sunday August 25th @ noon (followed by picnic at Estabrook Biergarden)

Last Swim:
   Friday August 23rd @ 6am
      Water Temp:  62.5 (+)
      Air Temp:  58 & sunny
      Waves:  1ft rollers
      Clarity: crystal clear
Crew: Diablo, Kahuna, Showgirl, Bubba, Sir James, Big Show, Nivens McTwisp, Erin, Panini, Capt'n
      Skin Count: 3
      Suit Count: 7

The water temp just a few feet from the Klode beach measured a consistent 62.5 but the water away from the beach felt more like the upper 60's than the low 60's.  Combine these conditions with the forecast for plentiful sunshine, warm air temps and the warm water that's been rolling in since Thursday morning and we should hopefully have all the right ingredients for an exceptional weekend to swim in the lake.

Congratulations to the Klode Kru mates who participated in last night's Aquathon.  Here's how the Kru fared:

Hey Guys, just wanted to let you know about a little swim/paddle/sail event I'm putting together for August 31st at 9:30am. If you're on facebook, you can get some details here: https://www.facebook.com/events/139847432887630/

The idea is a point to point swim across the bay from Big Bay to Doctor's Park (or vice versa depending on the current). I'm inviting everyone I know to swim, paddle board, kayak, row or sail along with us.

If you or anyone else is interested, let me know so I can have a way to contact you the morning of to let you know which beach we'll start from (I'm thinking I'll assess the conditions at around 8:30am). Feel free to pass on the invitation to anyone you know. The more the merrier!

What's the distance from Big Bay to Doctor's Park?

Is Sunday also GTGBFTOTB Day? Folks have probably noticed the tire on the beach, north of down spot. Can we get it off the beach? I looked at it today, and it is a large tire. It says on it "logging, construction, mining," so it probably was used on an off road dump truck, or earth mover. Here is what we likely will need to get it off the beach: (1) small shovels and trowels to get as much sand and water out of the tire as possible (trust me, I know from experience that getting as much sand and water as possible out of beached tire makes the tire much easier to roll/move); and (2) 4 to 6 folks willing to help get the tire upright, rolled down the beach and up the hill. If folks are interested in doing this, I can bring the small shovels/trowels. Once we get it up the hill to the parking lot, we would have two choices: (1) leave the tire there, to let the WFB Department of Public Works cart it away and dispose of it; or (2) attempt to load the tire in the back of somebody's truck, and haul the tire off to a refuse center, or tire center that would be willing to take and recycle it. Option 1 may get the WFB DPW folks grumpy. Option 2 may involve a service charge. If folks want to go with option 2 instead, who (Lauren) has a good sized pickup truck? I note there is also a tire (looks like a regular sized auto tire) on the beach near down spot, which while we are at it, would also be nice to get off the beach.

Mike, I'm interested in the swim on the 31st. I'm not on facebook, so can you post more information here?

Kahuna, I'm game for helping get the tires off the beach on Sunday, depending on what time you want to do it. I have some other committments after 10:00, but I'd be availble to help in the morning.

Like James said the distance between Big Bay and Doctor's Park is about 4.25 miles if you can swim it in a straight line. The risk in this swim is that when you're furthest from shore, you will be about 0.80 miles from shore. I know we've got a couple paddle boarders and I'm hoping we get some kayakers for assistance, but it's ultimately up to you to feel comfortable for that long of a swim that far from shore.

Send me an email so I have your email address and I can update you the day of with which beach we'll depart from at 9:30.
