Ben Breaks the Ice

Next Swim: ??
Last Swim: Thursday May 3, 6AM
Water Temp: 52
Waves: ?
Water Clarity?
Crew:  Ben "don't call me Bubba" Speed

Congratulations to Ben for being the first to "walk the plank" this year.  (Yes, I know some of you did the Polar Bear Plunge on New Year's day, but acts of drunken lunacy don't count.)  So it's time to reset the counters but before I do I won't repeat the mistake I made last year and reset them without saving them first.  So here are the official 2011 Killepitsch Lake Michigan swim counts:

Total Lake Swims: 173
Skin Swims: 108
Wetsuit Swims: 64
Viking Swims: 1
Swim Days: 133
Plank Counter: 1074
Shots of Killepitsch poured: 278

Wow!  We really had over a 1,000 individual swims last year?  It'll be a tough record to break!

Sorry for the lack of data. The Thursday swim included was quite frigid, but the other conditions were nice. no waves, but not quite glass. If clarity was judged on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the clearest, it was a 3. I'll definitely walk the plank on Monday morning at 6:00, but could be talked into a swim on Sunday. Any takers?

Big Moon rising

Anyone interested in doing a Supermoon swim tonight at 7:51, when the moon will appear largest around these shores? ...If the full moon looks a bit bigger and brighter in tonight's sky, you're not seeing things: It's just the "supermoon" — the biggest moon of 2012. And there's a meteor shower from Halley's comet peaking tonight, too, adding to the sky show... A good time to watch is during moonrise or moonset. At these times, due to reasons astronomers don't fully understand, the moon can appear much larger than when it is higher in the sky. But the view is actually an optical illusion (also known as the "moon illusion").

Swim this morning at 6:00. Temp was 50. No waves, glass-like. Clarity was a 4 on my scale of 1-5 with 5 being transparent. Clear skies with a great sunrise. Everything was perfect this morning, except for the cold temp. So, I grabbed my fins and kickboard and did a leg workout to mudslide and back. The SCUBA Max gloves were great. Hope y'all join me soon.
