Bonus Days

Next Swim:  Monday September 29th 6PM

Last Swim: Sunday September 28th 10AM
Water Temp: 60
Waves: Calm
Water Clarity:  Crystal Clear
Crew:  Steve, Kate, Zoom Zoom, Diablo, Mr. Anonymous, Capt'n, Patriarch
Wetsuit/Skin:  2/5
Pitsch Count: 7

Whoddathunk some of the best swimming days of the year would come at the end of September?  Normally the lake should be cooling but instead a string of warm calm sunny days is warming it up. What a treat to be swimming along side a lake bluff that is lit up with the reds yellows and oranges of autumn.  It can't last long though, come and enjoy it while you can.

P.S.  In other news, it is rumored that Showgirl is in Venice.  In today's paper I saw that George Clooney got married in Venice yesterday.  Coincidence?  I think not!  After all, if you were George Clooney wouldn't you want Miss America 2006 at your wedding?

Fyi, my group, Greater Shorewood Bikers is holding a fall get together and informal fundraiser at the Hubbard Park Beer Garden this Thursday. Here are the details:

Please join us for Biketoberfest, this Thursday, October 2, from 5-8 p.m., at the Hubbard Park Beer Garden (address: 3565 N. Morris Blvd, Shorewood, conveniently located on the Oak Leaf Trail). Shorewood is now blessed with a plethora of wonderful outdoor spots to bike over to for a beer or other beverage. There will be live polka music that night, and if the weather is bad or cold that night, it’s still a good place for a gathering, as they’ve got a big, heated “wedding tent” with addable/removable sides, set up there for all of the next week. Show up with a bike helmet that night, and get a liter of beer for the cost of a half-liter. There is no particular agenda for the gathering, other than to celebrate the end of what has been an excellent summer for bike commuting on the OLT, encourage folks (who haven’t yet) to try winter bike commuting, talk about how we can improve the OLT (drainage, plowing, safety, etc.), and talk about what we can do to move Shorewood from a Bronze level to a Silver level Bicycle Friendly Community designation (re-application due for Shorewood next August). I hope you can stop by that evening.

I encourage you to invite friends of yours who may have an interest in this event. (Note, there is a Packers game that night, but that is not until 7:30, and the beer garden has lots of TV screens there).

I WAS in Venice, and very nearly saw George Clooney. Instead, I saw the boats of paparazzi following him.

But that's not the purpose of this comment. I read Panini's amazing article about diving, and I believe the below link is closely related to the topic:

Water temp: low 60's per toe test
Waves: small swells
Crew: Gumdrop
Location: McKinley

It was a great night for a full moon swim. Clear sky save a scattering of scenic clouds, nice big bright full moon, and nice moon beam on the water to swim

Though the water was a bit chilly all emerged with refreshing vigor restored by the invigorating autumn waters of the Lady of the Lake. Good sun and scenic autumn leaves were also a pleasure to behold. though there was some lamenting of having to squeeze into wet suits, upon which Harini came up with a simply marvelous idea. Paint on wetsuits. With a little further research I'm sure that next year we can offer this option to those who really dont want to done a traditional wetsuit. We will offer up only the warmest to hottest colors. Please post your preferences. Haraini, I think Patriarch has already got a Hot Pink picked out for you!
