Happy Birthday to Crash!

Holiday weekend swims:
- Saturday July 2nd, 1PM at Klode (followed by celebration of Crash's birthday at the Estabrook Beirgarten)
- Sunday July 3rd, 1PM at Klode
- Monday July 4th, 1PM at Big Bay, Lake Drive and Fairmount (due to the closure of Klode beach for the 4th celebration)

Last Swims: Friday July 1st 6AM
Water Temp: 64 "Aye No Bad"
Waves: Rolling 2 footers building
Water Clarity:  Good
Crew: Itch, Diablo, Showgirl, Panini, Hank, Capt'n, Crash, Sara, Snap, Brian, Patriarch, and joining the fun on shore were Scarface, North Shore Nancy, and Andrea
Suit/Skin: 4/7

Thursday June 30th 6PM
Water Temp: 66 Almost "Decent"
Waves: Small
Water Clarity: Good
Crew:  Nanook & Patriarch
Suit/Skin: 0/2

Every morning is different at the beach.  Yesterday's tranquil serenity gave way to waves crashing on the beach, and the non-stop talkfest of Capt'n and Panini.  The water was considerably warmer than the air, making for a bit of a post-swim shiverfest.  But that didn't stop us from celebrating Crash's
birthday with delicious chocolate cake!  Because we love her all to bits, Crash's birthday celebration will continue after tomorrow's (Saturday) swim at the Estabrook Beer Garden.

P.S.  It's getting more and more difficult to watch Kahuna's suffering.  If he doesn't get better soon we'll need to put him down.  It would be the humane thing to do (maybe not so much for him, but for us).

Reminder:  Klode beach is closed Monday because they will be setting up the fireworks display.  So our Monday July 4th swim will be at Big Bay (also called Buckley Park), at Lake Drive and Fairmount.

Anyone up for an earlier swim Sunday - maybe 930 or 10am - so we can swim longer without running into boats or jet skis?

Kahuna is as healthy as a horse, so you just might want to be careful about suggesting otherwise:

Hi, thanks for all the info about swimming spots, really useful. We are coming to Milwaukee this 3rd/4th July. We get there too late for the swim on the 3rd at Klode, but hope to try a swim later in the evening. I was wondering if there is anything to note, for e.g. always swim start south or north? Thanks!

Thank you so much for the wonderful surprises, cake and kind words.
Seeing and being able to hang out with all of you are my biggest motivators for going to swim.
Just like the lake: full of surprises, amazing and rewarding. Thank you!

Andy -- Yes. Just a few things to note:
1. Sometimes there is a current (not usually strong), so we tend to head North first, if the current is from the North, and vice versa, so coming back you are swimming with the current.
2. If it is a really nice day, there can be boat traffic or jet ski traffic around Klode; so be visible (like with a safe swimmer buoy), or stay closer to shore.
3. There are no obstructions if you head North from Klode Beach. If you swim South, about 3/4 to 1 miles South of Klode, there is a low probability that you will come across some old pylons, where a pier used to be. But the water is pretty high this year, so I wouldn't worry about those.
4. We usually recommend that first timers swim with us on a calm day when we head North, and stay shallow (4 or 5 ft. of water). Headed that direction, its pretty much flat sand beach and bottom the whole way, so if a swimmer has any problems, the swimmer can just stand up and rest, or can just exit the Lake and walk back to Klode Beach. If you head south, it's a rocky bottom much of the way, and it is not as easy just to walk back.
Again, welcome to Milwaukee, and we hope you can get down on the Fourth to swim with us. Cheers.

Does anyone have an extra safe swimmer buoy they could bring down for my 1st time today?

They are available online for between 35 and 45 dollars, or in town at Walter's Swim.
