End of Season?

Next Swim: 2012?? But feel free to suggest a place and time. (I will be in California the next two weeks.)

Last Swim: Saturday Oct 29 1PM
Water Temp: low 50s
Waves: Small
Water clarity: Murky
Crew: Diablo & Gumdrop

Two auspicious events on Saturday: a possibly season ending swim Saturday afternoon, and Capn's excellent Halloween party Saturday night. Here's a couple pictures from the swim, hopefully Cap'n or someone will post pictures from the party.

A large fish swimming at Klode south beach. I'm no expert, but I think it was a walleye.
Two unidentified large fish at south-south beach.

Last Swim: Sunday Nov. 6
Air temp: around 60
Water Temp: high 40's
Waves: 1-2 foot rollers with a few nice white tops
Water clarity: Murky
Crew: Mr. Belvedere, me, and the Kahuna Tree

It was a pleasant though overcast autumn day for a playful swim to the garage and back. There are still some large sandbars 100-200 meters out making for some nice wave breaks. I can hardly wait till the water temp gets down to the mid 40's so we can start logging some Viking swims. With the additional daylight we now have I may be making some weekday swims. Please feel free to post if interested.

Last swim: Nov. 25, 1PM
Air temp: mid 50's
Water temp: mid 40's
Crew: Cap'n,Gumdrop, and the Kahuna Tree (has anyone seen Diablo?)

It was a great day for a viking swim, about a 100 meters, took us along the sandy south beach on a sunny afternoon. Afterwards we of course were treated to a great cold water swim endorphin high, to be capped off with a couple shots of our favored elixir. The only thing that could of possibly made it even better would be to have Hawaii 5-0 come out splashing with some addition bikini clad accompaniment.

OK kids:

1. First: Vote for Ted!

2. Second: Vote for Robin!

3. 1 and 2 relate to the the TriWis Board of Directors' election. If you are a member, vote, if you are not a member, join and then see 1 and 2.

4. Moving on to the Birkie. Those of you who have not done a Birkie yet, and you know who you are, it's time you man up and do one. Kahuna's doing it. Sonakahuna's doing it. Hell, even Minikahuna is doing it this year. But you can't. And you know why you can't? You know why? Cause YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH. (That and registration is already closed for 2012.) But that is no reason why you can't learn how to ski this year, so you can Do Das Big One in 2013. Kahuna hereby offers to teach anyone in Klode Krew who wants or needs to learn how to ski, to ski this season (to ski even better than the Patriarch skis. To get you started on your road to Valhala:
A. Wheel & Sprocket North Shore will be hosting a cross country ski night for TriWisconsin (and anybody else who wanders in) on Tuesday, Dec. 6th, with some exclusive TriWI deals (must be present to take advantage of the offer). There will be a ski wax clinic (by Ben Lund of Toko) starting at 6pm.
B. Kahuna will loan his collection of Birkie DVD's to anyone who wants 'em (note, must be 18 years or older, offer void where phohibited, not responsible for consequences of viewing). -- Kahuna

Screen Play: Season Over?
Time: December.
Scene: The Klode Beach.
Shot: Various members of the Klode Krew lie around on the beach bundled up and looking despondent. The Cap’n and Jack stride purposefully across the beach torwards them.
Cap’n: Hey! What's all this laying around stuff? What are you all still laying around here for?
Diablo: What the hell are we supposed to do? It’s winter. There's nothing to swim for anymore.
Patriach: [to Cap’n] Season’s over, man.
Cap’n: [With a wild look in his eye] What? Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? . . . Hell no!
Slip ‘n Slide: [to Kahuna] Germans?
Kahuna: Forget it, he's rolling.
Cap’n: And it ain't over now. 'Cause when the goin' gets tough... [thinks real hard of something to say] . . . the tough get goin'! Who's with me? Let's go!
[Cap’n runs out, alone; then returns]
Cap’n: What the F happened to the Krew I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh? This could be the greatest winter of our lives, but you're gonna let it be the worst. "Ooh, we're afraid to go with you Cap’n, we might get cold." Well just kiss my frozen blue ass from now on! Not me! I'm not gonna take this! Indoor bikers? Wimps! Indoor runners? Wimps!Indoor swimmers?
Kahuna: Wimps. Cap’n's right. Psychotic ... but absolutely right. We gotta swim this lake! Now we could do it with conventional wet suits, but that could take years for Cap'n to get ready and cost millions of lives. No, I think we have to go all out. I think that this situation absolutely requires a really futile and stupid skin swim be done on somebody's part! [que rousing theme music from Patton]
Cap’n: And we're just the guys to do it.
Kahuna: Aye!
Jack: [stands up insanely] Yeah, I agree. Let's go swim!
Diablo: Let's swim! .
Cap’n: [shouting] "Let's go swwwwwwiiiiiiiiimmmmmm!
[all of the Krew stands up, tear off their clothes as they run across the beach and into lake following Cap’n and Jack.]

Apparently the end of the world is nigh. To be ended on this winter solstice on the 21 st. Will the season be over then? I say the only sensible way to meet this predicted doom is to swim skin to worlds end!

You guys are hardcore! I'm a swimmer, and I do the Big Shoulders every year. Do you ever take on guest swimmers? I find myself on lake Michigan thrice a summer. Mostly Ludington, and saugatuck. Either way, thanks for introducing me to Killepitsch!

Liz -- Yes, guests are always welcome. When you are in our neck of the woods, check the blog, check the time, and show up at the announced time in the parking lot at Klode Park, in Whitefish Bay. Look for the lean, muscular, good-looking group of athletes gathering in the partking lot. Then look to the right, ignore the first group, and you'll probably then see the Cap'n, the Patriarch and Diablo. See ya on the beach!

Water temp:high 30's
Waves: none
water clarity; to fast to tell
Crew:Chuck,Chucky,Chuckles and me

It was a great evening for a winter viking swim (about 50 meters) on this winter solstice. Must say though, I am tad bit disappointed with participation. If you need motivation, just think of it as an excuse not to visit your whatever in laws! All kidding aside though, can hardly wait for the Polar Bear festivities, but if anyone is interested in a little training before then, I'm sure we can work something out.

Hey, friends. I checked out and went indoors when we hit Halloween. Apparently, some of the strong have maintained. My new holiday seal blubber has motivated me. Is there a plan for the Klode Krew to walk the plank in unison for the polar bear plunge? If so, I'd like to join. Please chime in with time and plans.
