Deceptive Motivation

Next Swims:
   Tuesday thru Thursday - 6am & 6pm
   Friday:  6am & 5:30pm

Last Swim:
Monday (Labor Day) September 2nd @ Noon
      Water Temp: Sir James' xr-7 laser gun (58), Itch-o-Meter (50), Macho-Meter (48.9)
Waves: flat with occasional slow rolling swells
      Clarity:  Crystal Clear
Kru:  The Patriarch, Diablo, Kahuna, Itch, Linda the Lampre, Sir James, Mr. Bubbles, Mr. Anonymous, Dragonfly, Wet Taco, Forger, Magic Mike, Ala Mode, Kickass Rubber (a.k.a. Stephanie), The Resistance (a.k.a Liz), Chris, Capt'n with Lone Star shore support from Gina.

With sunny skies, an air temp comfortably in the 70's and a calm lake surface the Kru arrived on the beach today with no shortage of motivation to swim.  Most didn't even hesitate for an official water temp as they grabbed their swim cap and goggles with nar a thought of pulling out a wetsuit.  The motivation levels quickly changed when the water temp reports were called out.  First Sir James' XR-7 Laser gun reported an initial reading of 58.  While this caused a momentary hesitation by some, the Kru continued to approach the plank as if it were just another day on the beach.  Then the initial Itch-o-meter reading was called out...52.  The Kru paused.  Then an unexpected second Itch-o-meter reading...50!  Groans could be heard with a smattering of "Whaaaaa???"  This was followed by a Macho-meter reading of 48.9.  At this point, those with wetsuits returned to their bags to begrudgingly prepare for the Baltic water.

Those who didn't have wetsuit or were already wearing them were the first to walk the plank today.  Surprisingly, after swimming past the Klode Rock Piles Mr. Anonymous exclaimed that he had found warmer water on the plus side of 60.  Could it be?!?!  With the new found motivation several of us ditched our wetsuits and walked the plank with visions of frolicking in the warmer water.  Much to our chagrin, though, we would soon find out that Mr. Anonymous had intentionally deceived us.  Shame!

Speaking of Motivation....thought some of you may enjoy this video.  Rumor has it this individual may be a distant relative of The Patriarch:

You may have heard my theory that I am resistant to nicknames and that no attempt to nickname me has ever stuck, or else has just been bad. Todays attempt by Cap'n proves evidence of my nickname curse. Walking up the hill, the "I am rubber you are glue" saying was discussed, which was obviously followed by cap'n drinking an entire bottle of Killeptitch and falling victim to a head injury of some sort. Alas, it has become clear I will have to finally pick my own nickname. In a quick search on Thesaurus.com for synonyms to "nameless", I have found two options. Incognito or Whatchamacallit. I am OK with either of these nicknames. You guys can choose.

Don't forget the Nickname Resister and their silent, lonely plea
When they march them off to prison, they will go for you and me.
Shame, disgrace and all dishonor, wrongly placed upon their heads
Will not rob them of the courage which betrays the innocent

If we are talking about a nickname for Liz, I like "Resister," an honorable and heroic name. And it reminds me too of one of my favorite characters from the BBC comedy "Hallo, Hallo," Michelle Dubois, leader of the local all-female french resistance unit. Here is a clip: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-_5JJmNB6E.

If the name is instead "Whatchchamacallit," then Liz has a walk on song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sAl8k93Lurs. But then there's also the candy bar.

My nominated name "White Diamonds" after Liz Taylor's signature fragrance, has not seem to have caught on.

The nicknames of whatchamacallit or else incognito are for me Stephanie. I tried to create a blog profile before I commented, but for some reason it still showed me as "Unknown" which could also be my new nickname.

Anyone watching the buoy?! Could it be true?

jamie said...

sad state of affairs when it's good to see 55 from that cursed buoy.
beats the hell out of the 47 from yesterday. now if its only true.

On the theory that it is closer to the buoy and further from the 49 degree water at Klode, I stopped at Atwater last night on my way home. No difference.

Data is showing from last night that atwater was 62. So we need Moondog to ferry us out to the blasted buoy and just swim around there I guess.

A$$ or gas baby, nobody rides for free! Unless of course your filthy rich and have 3 houses on the lake, then you get a free ride (not gonna mention any names though, just gonna get my Scuba gear out now).
