Amazing Conditions in Store for Big Swell Swim?

Next Swims:
Sunday: Big Swell Swim - McKinley Beach 8:30am start
   Sunday: Klode Swim - noon

Last Swim:
   Saturday 8/18 - noon (Klode)
      Water Temp:  ROASTIN'!!!  (75+)
      Waves: playful easterly 1-2 ft
      Clarity: clear away from shoreline
Crew: Diablo, Wet Taco, Dragonfly, Capt'n

It's not often that we enjoy water temps on the plus side of 70.  During a good summer we can sometimes count these days with more than than one finger.  Temps on the plus side of 75 on this side of the lake are typically only heard about about following a few rounds of Pitsch...and the actual date  the temp was experienced is usually left open to speculation.  For the record the Macho-meter 2000 measured the water temp today at 72.7 but The Patriarch and Itch can certainly attest to how the Macho-meter -2000 is typically 2-3 degrees below what they measure.  Having just returned from the non-wetsuit legal Steelhead 70.3 the water temp today was considerably warmer than Steelhead's official reading of 76.

Of course a seasoned Lake Michigan swimmer knows better than to forecast lake conditions.  I can certainly attest to how quickly the water temp can plunge from sensational to Baltic in the span of just a few hours and then bounce back to sensational a day later.  ...but if today's conditions persist we'll be in for a dandy of a swim at tomorrow's Big Swell Swim!

Any chance the new caps will be at the race tomorrow for those of us who haven't picked up yet?

It was lively swimming in the 2 plus foot waves last night..
Basically did the breast stroke for 900 meters.
Where do y’all find a good price on a wet suit to use for swimming?

Xterra. Also you can usually find a 10% coupon. Ask someone signed up for big shoulders for the coupon code. Also consider looking on their clearance page, where they sell suits that are perfectly good but either previously were rented or which have been returned by swimmers, usually because they guessed their size wrong.

Theres a tip ride warning again for today. Just read this interesting article. Takeaway: "Everything we’ve done points to the fact that there’s not one single message that works. Sometimes swim parallel is great, sometimes it doesn’t work. Same for floating.” More at https://www.outsideonline.com/2089696/everything-you-know-about-surviving-rip-currents-wrong

Autocorrect error. Rip tide!

Very interesting article. Key take away; relax, don't panic, don't try to swim against the tide.

I wanted to swim today so badly. Did any of you swim today? I think that I probably would have ended up walking in the water.. The waves looked so enticing. I saw a few people parasailing.. And I would’ve talked to one of them if they’re on shore. I really wanted to know what it felt like..
I’d like to see the shipwreck but I think it’d be wise to borrow a surf board when you’ll would go out. I’m not confident enough in deep water yet..I’ll text you Lorraine..
