Who Knew?

I always thought that winter cold water swimming was something done by drunks, daredevils, cranks, and eccentrics.  But I was wrong.  In Europe at least, there are lots of regular people who swim outdoors all winter.  Kahuna found this article on the New York Times website:

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/12/20/world/europe/defying-winters-dreariness-with-an-arctic-embrace.html?_r=1&

I remain unconvinced.  My preferred method of dealing with the "dreariness" of winter is to hit the ski trail.  Actually if I had to pick one word to describe this winter it wouldn't be "dreary" it would be "awesome".  Best in years.  We're all a little crazy in our own way, right?

And I always thought that summer Lake Michigan swimming was something done by drunks, daredevils, cranks, and eccentrics.

Spring is in the air! Cardinals are singing, Willow trees have turned golden, the Birkie will soon be nothing more than a pleasant memory of frozen futility -- twon't be long now mateys until the Lady of the Lake grasps us once more by her arms and clasps us to her chilly bosom!

Kahuna and Patriarch, are you guys doing the Birkie in a couple of weeks? If so, good luck to you, Brad, Sara, Feldy and any others from the Kru, who are!

Some say tom-ay-to, some say tom-ah-to and some say fwah fwah fwah. But even if they were crazy, you certainly wouldn't know it! :-)

How does one hook up with you Lake Michigan swimmers this spring? I'm new to the area (and open water swimming) and looking a group to swim with!
