Spring is the season of new beginnings, so we zero out the Killipitsch swim counters and set new goals. It will be difficult to beat last season's record number of swims (162), but try we must.
In the spirit of the season I forgive all sins and therefore the swim names of Tyrant, Hook, Diablo and Dewdrop, revert to Patriarch, Cap'n, Gabriel, and Gumdrop.
Before we begin though, we need to settle the issue of what counts as a "swim". Our old rule was that it had to be at least 400 meters to count. But that wouldn't count all those short fast cold water swims undertaken by Cap'n, Gabriel, and Gumdrop (not me, I think it's nuts to spend all that time getting ready, driving to the beach, freezing near to death, and then drive home, all to swim for thirty seconds, but I guess boys will be boys).
Maybe we need a new category to count these extremely cold, extremely short swims. Perhaps we could call them Cold Cox swims in honor of our heroine Lynne Cox, famous cold water swimmer and author of "Swimming to Antarctica" and other books and articles.
Sophomoric humor aside, it shouldn't be long before we're in the drink again, although I swear I'm not swimming until it's at least 55, I don't care what you guys call me.

Let's the count start...
Another "Cold Cox" swimming was done today 3/28/10. Water seems warmer but the Lady of the Lake keeps giving us a cold shoulder. The sun felt good as we walked the plank at South Beach. We swam to the end of the beach and back, so far our longest Cold Cox swim. A couple ducks follow us and right away we named them Patriarch and Cap'n.
As soon as the water gets to 55 we should get out the Killipitsch and drink for an excellent swim season.
I am a little bit perturbed after reading your blog. What were you doing in the shower with the Cap'n. Was he washing your back and viceversa? TMI.
I accept the forgiving from all my sins although I would like to keep the name. Part of the crew part of the ship.

Indeed, your comments demonstrate that you deserve the name Diablo. And Gumdrop was also talking smack at the TriWis party on Sunday, You will be sorry when Cap'n and I show up, all ripped and ready from our mega-yardage in the pool. Cap'n is really improving, and will leave you guys in the dust, or maybe I should say in the wake.
Another cold cox swim added to the count on Friday at noon. Present were Diablo and Gumdrop with a late arrival by Patriarch, whom was headed out for a bike ride. Water temp felt warm, about 40, according to the big toe test anyways. We figure we put in about 200 yards, our furthest yet at that temperature, and felt we could have even made it to sewer pipe and back. We may make an attempt of the aforementioned on Sunday at noon. Hope to see you at the beach. Oh, I almost forgot, upon exiting the water we saw the same 2 ducks, who appeared to be washing each others backs, curios how we never see the ducks and Patriarch and Captain at the same time.
Diablo and Gumdrop walked the plank this Easter Sunday, without any sight of the Captain or Patriarch. Although, I thought I caught a quick glimpse of some whiskers scurrying about in the shrubs. Today's swim took us from Klodes north beach to the down spout, approximately 300 meters,at a water temp in the low 40's, our longest yet at that temperature. Though noticeably more chilled (afterwards) I'm sure it wont be very long till we log in a regular distance swim to the down spout.

At this time I would like to change the title from "cold cox" to something more... macho... or more friendly user. What about "Vikings Swims".
Hey Diablo, you make a very good point, and besides, cold cox is kind of sexist, it kind of implies the exclusion of the fairer sex. Perhaps we could call them perky nipple swims?
