NOBODY puts Baby in a Corner

Next Swims: Saturday, Sunday noon, M-F 6am and 5pm

***SPECIAL NOTICE***The Monday, JULY 4th swim will take place at Big Bay because of holiday festivities at Klode.  There may or may not be a traditional swim from Big Bay to Atwater.  Check back here for time!

Last Swim: Wednesday 6 a.m.
Water Temp: 52
Air Temp: 68
Waves: a little bumpy from the east-southeast
Clarity: Murky
Kru:  Lydia the Tattooed Lady, Lt. MJ, Mermaid Princess, Cindy, Dragonfly.
Early shift:  Diablo
Late shift:  Magic Mike

Another beautiful morning, thanks TTL!

TTL announced the temperature at the usual low of 52.  She, MJ and I layered on the neoprene while Cindy and Mermaid Princess prepared for a skin dip.

Diablo happened by with a mystical creepy Baby, apparently wrested from the deep. The Baby made its way from towel to towel (as they do) before ending up on the wall:

"Nobody puts Baby in a corner," MJ quipped as she snapped this.

"I put Baby in the corner," Cindy admitted (boasted?) Clearly someone to be reckoned with.

TTL, MJ and I swam South past the guano-scented shore of seagulls, past Love Rock and arrived at the stinky Sewer Pipe.  The waves were not large but impeded progress in both directions.  MJ had them on her breathing side going out, I had them on my breathing side coming back.

The water was increasingly comfortable as the sun rose, especially east of the rocks.  Once you got inside the rocks, it was back to the little knives.  As we clambered up the shore, Magic Mike emerged from the water in full gear.  We exchanged pleasantries about the cold.

Rest of the day pretty much an anti climax execpt for a spirited text thread about a player soon to be nick-named...

It's hot outside, just swim.

Interestingly, thats probably my #1 reason for not swimming if the water temp is too low. Donning 5mm of skintight rubber in 96F isn’t my favorite pastime. And I’m not blessed with nerve endings that endure 50 degree water for long enough to get an actual workout. This has all been discussed at length but there, now its in writing. Methinks its a fantastic day to SUP though.

Wednesday night:

Kru: Itch, Peaches, Handyman Hank, Synchro
Air temp: 70
Water temp: 62
Waves: 1' to occasional 2' swells out of the ESE
Clarity: 7/10

A good swim was had by all. A little scuz afloat to the south of the wall, but we've all seen a lot worse! Itch practiced his mallard-napper-in-training moves (don't worry, unsuccessful) as we enjoyed a lovely June evening, post-swim. Cheers everyone!

Oh! I almost forgot. Itch and I landed the first ever long skips, which are defined as: rock skips launched from at least 30' back from the water's edge. Look out Guinness Book, here we come!

When are folks swimming early on Saturday?

Sorry - didn't see this until now - Jenny, Kim and I swam this morning around 7:30. (Plan was to meet at 7 but I opened my trunk to discover I had left my bucket'o gear at home - so Jenny and I had a nice chat and ride to and from my garage in Bayside- discovered Kim on the beach upon our return) Water was 51.6 according to Kim's thermometer - but definitely colder by the rocks. Jenny and I swam to mudslide - not sure how far Kim swam - it was very calm and clear. Nice morning for a chilly swim! New guy "Dan" was also there - but he only had wetsuit and goggles - first time - came back before he got to the rocks. Needs more neoprene! :)

It should probably be formally noted that Monday July 4th swim at Big Bay is at noon, as traditionally done.
