Here's more history on the shipwreck:

Here's what the Appomattox looked like afloat:

in its final resting place.

I hope to see you at this fun event.

Okay! There is also a swim to report on from today.  Ara put on full suit and accoutrements and swam about a mile.  MJ and I did three laps around the rockpiles skin (+booties/gloves).

Laguna Mike and Mr. A did longish skin swims.

MJ and I both recorded our swims and this is what we got:

My three loops.

Remember, no matter how much you may feel like spaghetti, we are all stars.

Ten a.m. sounds good. I think the remainder of the hull of the Appomatox resting on the bottom of the lake looks more look like a checkerboard, than a series of parallel lines. FYI, I just have 2 chick tixs left (but the tix booth at the BBQ should still have a lot more at that time tomorrow). Looking forward to it all.

haha, saw this on a dive-related website describing the incredibly arduous trip down to Atwater Beach:
"Special considerations: Divers can access the Appomattox from a boat or from shore off from Atwater Beach in Shorewood. Shore entries are definitely reserved for divers who are in excellent shape, as the five-story trek up and down the stairway from the park to the beach is extremely physically demanding. A path has been recently constructed to allow carts to be used to get to and from the beach, but the trek to the beach remains difficult. In addition, the wreck lies approximately 300 yards from shore, making the swim to the wreck challenging as well.

Regardless of how you get to the wreck, divers are always advised to check on water conditions as most wave action can reduce visibility at this site. A calm period of 2 or more days is often required for visibility to improve once the bottom is disturbed."

Apparently the scuba divers are pantywaists, too.

I contacted UWM Freshwater Sciences about the Atwater Buoy. The links that are included on the blog no longer work. They have a new updated site to check buoy data. Here's the reply I received: "The Atwater buoy was deployed on June 1. It is fully functional and the data is available via GLOS's new platform, Seagull. You can learn more about this new platform here. https://seagull.glos.org/map?coords=-87.6580693%2C43.0655066%2C9.4

The layout is different than the older glbuoys.org layout, but the data is all there. You can create a Seagull account to customize your landing page, select "favorite" buoys, and even provide quick feedback to the GLOS development team. They check this feedback daily and usually respond the same day with an explanation or to share a timeline for when new features will be rolled out.

Having temp/depth data is super important to many people, so they are well aware of this issue."
