It's a Bird! It's a Crane! It's Neither!

Next Swims:
     Saturday/Sunday 8AM and Noon
Saturday bonus swim 6AM (Swim with Showgirl!)
     Mon-Fri 6AM and 5PM

Last Swim:  Friday 6AM
Water Temp:  70
Air Temp:  Warm
Clarity:   getting clearer, but still pretty cloudy
Waves:  flat and awesome
Kru: Tattoo Lady, Dragonfly, Ala, Karolina, Joleen, Showgirl, Kahuna, Thanos the Magnicent, Panini, Northshore Nancy, Handyman Hank, Pool Noodle, Moondog, Magic Mike, Forger, Patriarch, Amy, Bret, Adam (three unaffiliated swimmers, but we're all about inclusivity here in the Kru), and...Diablo on the early shift

That's right, there are TWENTY swimmers in the above list. Twenty badasses who got their asses out of bed and to the beach at 6am (ish) on a week day.  Mazel tov to us all!

As we were nattering around the beach this morning, Magic Mike shared his Goldilocks attempts to swim yesterday (Atwater-- no parking! Big Bay-- too crowded) before arriving at Klode (just right!).  And THEN... he mentioned the crane!  No, not this,

 but then...  not really this,

 but this:

We looked south and behold... something new was going on.  Construction on the bluff!  Some swimmers had already headed north, but there was no way we were going to miss out on seeing heavy equipment while swimming.

So... I don't know if you've ever been to Las Vegas, but as you walk around Vegas, things look SO close.  So you walk and walk and walk... and the place you want to get to never seems to get closer.  The mirage of waterside construction was like that.  We swam past Love Rock, past the diesel-smelling Sewer Pipe, and then continued further south, with the destination always in sight but always out of reach.  Until FINALLY we reached a big backhoe sitting on a bunch of big rocks at the bottom of the bluff. It was pretty amazing, and totally worth the swim.

There was a bit of chit-chat, and then we headed back.

The un-resolved mystery is how the freaking backhoe and huge rocks arrived at their destination.  Hank said it would have to be by barge, tho as you may or may not recall, there were some serious waves yesterday.  Whatevs.. it was awesome to see all of it.

Even without the unexpected magic of weird shoreline events, it was an amazing flat-water swim-- one of those days where it felt like you could, and should, swim forever.

Showgirl identifies one of this morning's swimmers as "Thanos the Magnificent." Who dat?

Is that a typo (when she meant instead to refer to "Thanos the Mad Titan"? Or has she been watching TTMT as he swims or changes and decided "Thanos the Magnificent" is a name that far better describes who and what he is?

Must be a typo, surely she must have meant Moondaug the Magnificent.

I'm in for the 6am swim too! I think Hank will be attending the 8am dip, unless I can get him up and moving.
