Dragonfly and I stayed in for about 10-15 minutes.  Diablo and Itch must have been gone for a half hour or more.  Definitely colder than yesterday, but it wasn't as painful as I was expecting with those low temperatures.  Cap'n didn't swim in the lake, but he did well in a race this morning, so he earned a shot. 

Found Hanks' cymbal playing monkey thingie on my handlebars when we came back up.  Looked really great!  Thanks, Hank!  I think he's a great hood ornament - I'll have to figure out how to glue him on there or something.

The swim gods smiled on us today.  An hour before our swim it was raining heavily, but by noon it was clear and warm and sunny.  A perfect swim day except for one thing:  the water was a wee bit chilly.  Didn't stop some people though.

Itching To Go

Next Swim:  Sat 5/25 Noon

Well it's Memorial Day weekend, so it must be summer, right?  It must be so because several swimmers are beating the drum to get in the water again.  I call it the Itch effect.  He and Diablo have been swimming all winter, so we really don't have a swim season anymore.  Just skin season, wetsuit season, and double wetsuit season.  

If it matters, the water temp is mid-40s.  Good luck with that.  (My plan is to watch from a safe distance.)

First Thaw Triathlon May 18th

I just signed up for the First Thaw Triathlon in Oconomowoc on Saturday, May 18th.  As far as I know, it's the first open water tri of the season.  The swim will be in Silver Lake. 

They'll have a Sprint and a Super Sprint.  The Super Sprint also has a "Swim What You Bring Division", where "you can swim with what ever you want (noodles, fins, mask, snorkels, gloves...).  Sorry, no boats, hydrofoils, or rafts".  Of course, such deviants are not eligible for age group or overall awards, but they will still get a finisher medal.

They're also saying they'll cancel the swim and change the event to a duathlon if the water is colder than 55 degrees

Swim, Pint, and a Round

Ready to anticipate warm open waters again? Come join Handyman Hank and I tonight,  at Shorewood H.S. swim pool (from 8:10-9:10 ), and afterwards get a pint at Draft and Vessel  while listening to the Irish jam. Perhaps to sing a round to waken the Lady from her cold slumber and welcome in a warmer spring.

Kru Logic

The air temp is -20℉, windchill is -50℉, and the Lake Michigan water temp is 33℉.  Because of this, your typical Kru member thinks to him or herself "hmmm, if I went for a swim in the Lake today": (1) the water is going to feel much warmer than the air; (2) good acclimation opportunity so the water is going to feel much warmer in a couple of months when the water temp is in the 40s; and (3) I bet a shot of Killepitsch is going to taste really good today when I get out of the Lake! 

Pizza, Beer & Movie

Tired of the same old Netflix and Chill?  Time to head to the theater this Tuesday Night.
