Next Swim: TBD
Last Swim: Sunday. April 23rd noon
Water: 50 Clear and Calm when we started, a raging sea of whitecaps thirty minutes later
Swimmers: Showgirl, Wet Taco, Iceman, Panini, Itch, Mr. Anonymous, and Diablo (our lone skin swimmer)
The lake is warming much more quickly than usual, but as if to warn us against false optimism, conditions deteriorated rapidly during the swim. Inside of ten minutes the air temperature dropped 20-30 degrees and the wind went from still to gale force and water from dead calm to heavy foaming chop. Almost as if she was spitting us out.

In case you missed the UWM video showing Jamie and Diablo going into the frosty surf: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTKCQ937x2o. Coincidence as to the names, or is that one of Diablo's daughter doing the reporting?
And if we are going to be assigning new names, let's get a new one for Itch, so we don't spread the idea or misconception that it's unsafe or unhealthy to swim in the lake. Should we make it a contest? Suggestions? Nominations?
How about: "Damn Printer!"
Hi guys, its worth noting that the organizers of the Big Swell Swim race at Devils Lake are offering a Milwaukee 2.5k and 5k race on August 20th at Bradford Beach.
^Sorry, meant to say McKinley Beach
Jack, is registration open yet for the McKinley Beach swim? I can't find any info on it.
Lorraine, last I had seen registration isn't open yet. Only a big announcement/save the date message was sent out which stated it was pending final word from the Coast Guard.
...what crash said.

Anybody Swimming today? Noon?
this coming sunday is looking better. Anyone? Beuller?
Tuesday and Thursday at 6 pm. plus weekend is indeed looking good.
The full flower moon is tomorrow, but will probably be rained out. However, a good view can probably be seen tonight (moonrise around 7) and Thursday.
Unfortunately I will miss the fun as I will be in San Francisco another week (returning on Tuesday 5/16). I eagerly look forward to reading about your most excellent adventures on the blog. Patriarch
Mark your calendars: Shipwreck swim, followed by BBQ & Beer Lunch at Atwater Park, Saturday June 10. I have tickets to sell for BBQ Chicken Dinners ($10.50), and BBQ Rib Dinners ($13), which is a slightly lower price than if you buy day of there. Proceeds go to a number of worthy projects in Shorewood (e.g., scholarships, Atwater Park/Beach improvements, etc.). Here's hoping for clear water!
Itch-
If you went this evening (Thursday) it must have been awesome. Gone this weekend, sadly.
hey Mike, diggin the profile pic. wasn't sure who you were until I saw it.nice.
Thursday was freaking nice, almost perfect. calm and warmish. win win. only problem , still a bit murky so it's hard to swim a straight line but hell of a way to zig zag in that beautiful open water! NO LANE LINES.......HAZAAA!!!
