Freak Lake Inversion Brings 70 Degree Water Ashore

Just kidding.  I couldn't resist pulling Kahuna's and Speed's chains.  They're like a couple of kids waiting for Santa Claus.  Patience my friends, it will warm up soon enough.  After a great start in March, the lake surface water has actually cooled down in April.  But the days are getting longer and all we need is a few warm sunny calm days to get the swim season rolling.

On the subject of Mr. Speed's swim nickname.  I would agree that he is certainly the closest thing to a "Bubba" that we have in these parts, but I have lots of relatives and in-laws in the deep South, and I know some real Bubbas, and Speed is not remotely like them.  Besides, with a name like Speed we ought to be able to do better.

In the meantime, in-between time, relax and watch the game.

Hooray! Proof of life for the Patriarch! It does feel like Christmas, and i just can't wait. I'm going for my first dip Thursday morning at 6:00. Crazy? Maybe. But I have this new wetsuit and the winter whale blubber has accumulated enough insulation that I should be able to pull off at least a Storm Pipe swim. See you all (y'all) soon!

I appreciate the invitation, but the weatherman says a 90% chance of a thunderstorm at that hour.

This morning I logged my first lake swim of the year. Just a short trip out to storm pipe and back. The therm registered 52. These wetsuit things really work. Next purchase: gloves. I forgot how much i enjoy the amazed gawking from the joggers.

Speed -- Good for you. What wetsuit did you buy? Anybody got a recommendation out there for those who might be considering gloves for the early season? Like which ones are OK, and where to buy? See ya guys soon.

Is that a new flavor of Killepitsch I spy?

I went with the Blue Seventy Reaction sleeveless. I already had the Quintana Roo sleeves, which were appreciated this morning. I just purchased Scuba Max 3mm neo gloves. I liked them because they have a velcro wrist straps. Blue Seventy has a neo glove with webbed fingers, but it lacks wrist straps.
