Pirates Kitchen on Tuesday
Ahoy mates! Join us at the Pirate's Kitchen (California Pizza Kitchen) Tuesday night at 7PM to celebrate, the coming of spring, the swims soon to come, and hear stories of Capn's Gasparilla Adventure (and perhaps you have your own winter adventures to regale the crew). Eat, drink, and be merry!

Sonakahuna say he swim in Lake Mendota twice in the last week. Accuse Kahuna of being wimp. Kahuna say, only swim in Gitche Gumee (or big lake connected thereto) count. When next "swim"?
6 bells.
Which watch, and is that CST, CDST, GMT or Zulu Time?
When are you landlubbers getting back into the drink? It had better be soon. Why? Because we're going to miss out on all the Viking swims if we wait!
OK, it's April 7th already. When do we make the first plunge?
cestonal readoxKahauna, I need some wetsuit guidance. I think you have the Blue Seventy Reaction sleeveless. Thinking about getting the same, as I like the sleeveless. However, I'm curious about your positive and negative feedback. Please reply or text me...404-668-0579. Ben "please don't call me Bubba" Speed.
Speed Gun -- What does "cestonal readoxKahuna" mean? Something like "All Hail Kahuna!" in Klingon? I own a Quinta Roo sleeveless, much abused, much patched, which has held up well for me. It must be 10 years old, so I really can't speak to what the new ones now are like. The amazing deals currently tend to be for Xterra wetsuits, which I have heard good things about. I plan on buying a sleeved version of an Xterra wetsuit in June. The last I heard Xterra was selling it's Vortex sleeveless wetsuit for $135. You may be able to get a lower rate than that (like $99) if you either (a) "rent to own" one of their "used" rental wetsuits, or (b) use the TriWis Discount Code at checkout "C-TRIWIS" (note, I also recommend you join TriWis). To get Sonakahuna's wetsuit last year, I did the "rent to own" route, and the wetsuit we received looked like new. The only weird things about Xterra wetsuits is you can never dry them outdoors (the sun really plays havoc with the wetsuit skin), and you have to be careful about leaving them exposed in a car. If you want to spend a little more, and get a more custom fit, you may want to consider a De Soto two piece wetsuit. The Captain speaks very highly of those. De Soto makes good gear. The two piece custom fit is more important if you are buying a sleeved wetsuit, or if you are a person who has an "unconventional" body build. Good luck, and looking forward to seeing you once the season get's going.
I'm probably going to regret this, but does anyone want to try to go for a dip today at 3:00? If not, how about 3:00 on Sunday? I can be reached at 414.418.4469 if someone wants to coordinate this.
Kahuna, I wish i was worldly enough to quote Klingon. That was the code to prove that I'm not a robot. Sorry that it copied over. Good advice on the wetsuit. I like the sleeveless for the arm flexibility. And, I have those Quintana Roo sleeves that i can add. My only reluctance is if the sleeveless will leak. I can't swim this weekend, but I'm getting pretty close. Defintely want to be in the lake by May 1. Has anyone taken a temp measurement yet?
The two maps indicate the temperature is somewhere between 42 and 46. But with the sunshine, I bet it will feel way warmer.
Funny timing. i just went down to Klode and took a measurement. 49 degrees. Perhaps I;m being over eager. I think 50 is my mason-dixon line.
Everybody who thinks that if "Please Don't Call Me Bubba" wants to avoid being called Bubba he should avoid using phrases like "My Mason Dixon Line," say yyyyyuuuuuuuuuuuuppppp.
Took at reading this afternoon at Klode. 49.
@ Kahuna...yyuuuuppp. @ Ben "dont call me Bubba" Speed-I could have warmed the water up for you!
Aren't ya getting tired of seeing that headline "Pirate's Kitchen on Tuesday"? Wouldn't it be nice if there was a new headline up there, one like "Freak Lake Inversion Brings 70 Degree Water Ashore"?
Took a reading this morning at about 8:00. Lake was 46 degrees. I chalk it up to abnormal cold currents.
