Reason #587 for not drinking: You commit to things you regret. I'm not sure how it happened exactly, but at Showgirl's birthday party, after some beers and a shot of Killepitsch, one thing led to another. Eagerness to swim led to bold talk about swimming in May and pretty soon Capt'n and Gumdrop and Showgirl and Panini and me were committing to swim by Memorial Day, even though it's only three weeks away and the current water temp is barely 40.
Now you might say that pledge doesn't count because we were drunk, but that excuse doesn't work for pirates, we're pirates precisely because we keep promises made while we were smashed out of minds.
Or those of you who weren't there might think this reckless pledge doesn't apply to you, but it doesn't matter that you had no say, you're members of our Kru and on board, right?
See you in three weeks.

Aye matey, a pledge is a pledge. The pirate code must be followed. But did ye pledge to skin or suit?
swimming at 5:30ish, maybe 6ish today.
I'll be there with bells on. and a wetsuit. cause that's freaking freezing, even for me =)
hi! Is your group open to new swimmers? I would like to join you in your Memorial Day or Bust Swim. My name is Leonore and I recently moved here from Seattle. We used to swim in the Sound there but I know fresh water feels colder than salt water. Even in my wetsuit I hope to last for a bit! Looking forward to meeting other cold water swimmers.
Are you planning for Monday the 25th?
Lenore, we'd be glad to have you join us. Watch this blog, in another ten days or so we'll access conditions and post specific plans
I'm in the same boat as Lenore.. Was hoping to join your group and bring a friend! Is there an email list or is this the main website for new details?
Mark. This is the site to watch. Yes, come swim with us, and bring a friend. Newcomers always welcome.
I drove 4 hours South over the weekend partly to get in some open water swimming. It was so great. Warm enough that no wetsuit was needed, sun and sky, no walls to have to turn at every 25 yards, and interesting wildlife (like noisy geese, who were in a kerfuffle, worried I was out to get their chicks). Our Lake Michigan map, however, still showing temps in the 40's. Soon though, very soon. Order your cold water swim gear now, if you have not already done so, it can make the early seasons swims easier to get into. TriWis membership gets you some great prices on Xterra wetsuits (including a $120 sleeveless job, no sales tax).
The queen speaketh, memorial day cometh this weekend, are we ready to swimmeth or sinketh?
